Summer 2021 is finally here, Tigers! As you embark on your summer adventures, remember to keep these things in mind to ensure a safe and healthy summer:

Running girl, feeling accomplished

Get Moving

Try to schedule at least 150 minutes of aerobic physical activity into your week. With nice summer weather, you’re likely to have many options for outdoor activities that can keep you moving and safe from COVID-19.

Protect All the Skin You’re In

Wear Sunscreen

Protect yourself from UV rays and prevent skin cancer by applying sunscreen whenever you’re outside. Use an SPF of at least 15 and reapply throughout the day. Pair this with sunglasses, hats, long-sleeved clothing and shade if possible, and you’ll be ready to go!

Wear Insect Repellent

Mosquitos and ticks are likely to be out during the summer. You can reduce your chances of getting bitten and getting any viruses by wearing repellent or long-sleeved clothing.

Stay Hydrated

Drink water! Along with its numerous general health benefits, staying hydrated is your best friend when it comes to avoiding heat exhaustion. Be sure to balance your water intake with your exercise, time outside and alcohol intake, if you choose to drink.

Stay Cool

Another way to avoid heat exhaustion is to stay cool. If you’re outside for long periods of time, try to take breaks in air-conditioned settings, or seek out shade and fans.

Stay Informed

Be aware of the weather and your plans for the day. This can help you be proactive about how you plan to stay cool and hydrated throughout the day.

Eat a Healthy Diet

A healthy diet is one of the best ways to set yourself up for a great summer. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables will have you feeling ready to take on the day and do all your favorite summer activities!

With these things in mind, enjoy your summer, Tigers!
